A visual feast created exclusively for Untitled Space, Shanghai (CN).
In just 30 days, I crafted with found and gathered materials from the vicinity an immersive display of sculptures that captures the essence of the bustling metropolis of Shanghai: This city as seen through the eyes of an outsider (me). As you walk through the exhibit, you'll feel like you're strolling through the streets of a city towering with skyscrapers, an ever-evolving urban landscape full of contrasts between cutting-edge architecture and traditional shanty towns.
Every sculpture is a one-of-a-kind creation, made entirely from raw materials and found objects from the city. And, to add to the atmosphere, the sculptures are outfitted with speakers that play a pulse-pounding techno soundscape, that I composed from my own recordings of the Shanghai city sounds.
But that's not all, I've also included my own digital drawings, which serve as "blueprints" for the sculptures. These designs highlight the tension between modernity and tradition that is so present in Shanghai's architecture. This installation is truly a portrait of a city on the rise, an ever-expanding megacity that will leave you mesmerized.
